More on Aloe Vera

When using Aloe Vera for minor burns, scrapes or stings, it is best to take the bottom leaf of the plant. This method puts less stress on the plant.

If you break the top leaf off the plant it will lose more water and take longer to heal, making it difficult for the plant thrive. The tip will not grow back. Aloe Vera grows by producing new growth from the inside out. As the plant gets older and bigger the outer, lower leaves will die off. By taking the leaf from the bottom it puts far less stress on the plant.

Thank you and I appreciate the help. One last question: If you take it from the bottom and the leaf is large and you only need a little bit of gel, do you just waste the rest of the leaf? does it stay good for awhile or does it lose its healing properties? Also, if you use it very often, you don't have any leaves left! Sorry to have such a drab, yellow thumb like my drab yellow plants. Love, Sis-in-law

Dear Jennifer, you could save the leaf that you used by putting it in a plastic baggie for a while then when you need to use more just cut the leaf an inch or so from your last cut.
